Taryn Haas
Hello! I’m Taryn (they/them), a Vermont writer with a passion for discovering what drives a story and the best ways to bring it out. I’ve written myriad genres, including fantasy, science fiction, and horror, and across formats and age ranges, from poetry to flash fiction to young adult to short stories. After years of running critique groups and taking writing classes, I got my MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts in the Writing for Children and Young Adults program. During that time, I was pushed beyond my writing comfort zones, learned about my process, and uncovered aspects of myself I wouldn’t have otherwise. I want to help other writers do the same, to grow their writing and their selves, whether that’s by trying new genres or refining current work or re-evaluating your processes. I’m here to help support your whole self in the writing journey.
Aside from my MFA, I have my BA from the University of Pittsburgh in Philosophy. My publications include a short story, “Currants to the Sea,” in the Upon a Once Time anthology (2020), and flash fiction, “Held,” in the online horror lit magazine We Are the Quiet Ones. I’ve also worked as an editor for industry publications, including a book on women in the insurance field, and I facilitate a number of writing groups. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are important topics no matter what space I’m in, and I have presented on writing diversely at the Society for Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators New England conference.
